M2 is a subtype of AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia).
It is also known as “Acute Myeloblastic Leukemia with Maturation”.[1]
This subtype is characterized by a translocation of a part of chromosome 8 to chromosome 21, written as t(8;21).[2] On both sides of the chromosome, now containing pieces from two chromosomes, the DNA codes for different proteins. These two proteins are now being created as one single large protein, with a different effect in the body as the two proteins originally coded by the two different chromosomes.
